Anaerobic Training for CrossFit: How To Nut Up and Ride The Pain Train – 207

What’s up guys!

On this week’s episode we talk about training the anaerobic system.

You may be thinking, why do we need to know about the anaerobic system.

The anaerobic system is a very potent training style that can be used to peak performance and help you break through some mental barriers.  When done right, it can be extremely painful (in a good way!).

This system can also be over trained.  It’s very taxing on the CNS which means you should not use it for too long, meaning you can’t train this way year around and sustain gains in strength and the aerobic system at the same time.

For this reason, you need to be aware of how much is enough and how much is too much.

We discuss how you can use it to learn another gear.  Often times in fitness we think about pacing a certain way so that we can optimize our score on the said workout.

The problem with this is that we never push our limits to see how fast we can go and then break through those mental barriers.

I mentioned it being painful earlier and what I mean by that is dealing with extreme muscle and lung burn.  If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, or not sure how “painful” a minute of work can be.  Hop on an assault bike and do 60 sec MAX EFFORT sprint for max calories.

(If you don’t have an assault bike you can use a rower or do a 100m sled push with bodyweight on the sled for time).

It’s a whole different kind of pain and it will help you push through mental barriers.

Enjoy!
